If you like astronomy, you NEED this app....and if youre older than 50, you wont believe it.
If you like astronomy, you NEED this app....and if youre older than 50, you wont believe it.
This app is for the super-enthusiast or pro star gazer. The selection of tools is VAST! The catalog of objects wont disappoint anyone except the most accomplished astronomer. I would love to see an update for iPads larger screen. It only displays an iPhone sized UI centered in the screen. Other than that, its the only astronomy tool Ill ever need.
The updates to the program are grrrreat! I have all the other astronomy apps, this one is still the king! ----------------------------- Im not an astronomy buff, but this program is great. I do a bit of camping and Ive learned a few things, as well as its just plain impressive. Nothing better than laying on the ground with your S.O. and gazing at the stars. If you dont get lucky using this app, youre hopeless.
This doesnt work with Equinox dont fall for it.
For serious astronomers this is still hands-down the best app. The info it provides and the attention to detail are amazing. The developer is so sick into this app that he updates it all the time, which is no easy task. I feel like the competing apps are astronomy apps made by software developers where as this app is made by a talented developer who is an astronomer. It is not a 99 cent app but that is why it is so good. Its a professional level app for your mobil device.
This Pro version is for the serious stargazer who knows what he or she is doing. Its a detailed star atlas in your pocket. The eyepiece view is an outstanding feature that I cannot do without. It shows you what to expect to see in your scopes field of view. And you can knudge it slightly, just like if you were moving your scope slightly. Outstanding! You can set it up to show a mirror image view or an inverted view or both! This makes it very easy to star hop to a feint object. Just hop with this app and hop with your scope and you are there! Please dont complain that this doesnt show fancy graphics or other entertaining features. There are other apps for that. This is a serious tool for amatuer astronomers and well worth the $18.99 for those that can take advantage of its wonderful useful features.
Just upgraded my phone - and ap. Where is the "Tonight" feature. I used this frequently. Hmmm.
Worked fine before but last night showed moon where Jupiter was and kept claiming interference ( asking for figure 8 motion). With so many options I was unable to figure out how to fix issue - fortunately I have a backup that is now my go to astronomy app. Nice display and tons of features - hence two stars. For recreational star gazers I would look elsewhere.
This app is mind blowing... an absolute must have if youre interested in stargazing. The "whats happening tonight?" feature alone is worth every penny!
Only gets 3 stars because it seriously needs to update for iPad users who shelled out so much money. I have never spent so much on an app and will never spend so much again. The features of the program are great but for almost 20 bucks, its been years, its time to develop a real iPad user interface.
I think I have every astronomy app out there. This is the best of all of them. The user interface isnt the easiest to use but once you get used to it its pretty good. Wish the Milky Way was similar to the Milky Way as represented on Sky Safari or Star Walk. The compass sometimes gets "stuck" and requires shutting down the app and restarting, but Im not certain it is a program bug or iPhone bug. I like the amount of tweaking available, but sometimes its possible to tweak too much then have to reset the program. Each of the 3 apps I mentioned have their plusses & minuses, I have each configured differently making it easy to do what I want to do without changing settings.
I started with the standard version and just needed more! The app is great looking and works smoothly. The Tonight feature rocks. What you get with the Pro is more zoom and a ton more objects. Havent used it with a scope..yet.
Ive used Starmap Pro for years, and am constantly amazed at Frederics persistant improvements, tweeks, and openness to suggestions. Im at the point where I can no longer imagine a truely major enhancement, since the addition of satellite tracking. I look forward to improvements, knowing that my suggestions are quickly and professionally acknowledged, and often implemented. Who could ask for anything more?
The App Store promises a video preview of the next generation of Starmap in the update. In reality, only those who like Starmap on Facebook are allowed to see it. I dont use Facebook, but have been a loyal customer nonetheless, having submitted many bug reports and even ideas that Starmap has incorporated. I have been Starmaps advocate to skeptics, saying that, conceptually and in ease of reading the charts, Starmap is exceptionally good, despite its obvious need for a long overdue update. Still, no preview for me? Looking to upsell only to Facebook-likers, not to everyone? Facebook liking is inauthentic, because people request likes, and swap them for favors. Likes should be unsolicited to carry any integrity. Heres another bug (actually, a misfeature.) The Facebook login page has no "Cancel" button. Gotta force quit the app to get out of that screen.
If you are serious about learning constellations, and viewing by time, date, and location, this is the app for you. Went with the PRO edition after using Standard paid edition for 2 years. Upgraded to PRO for additional features and more in app purchases.
This is a great app from the novice astronomer up to the advanced amateur astronomer. The only thing that needs to be added is an ipad edition.
This is hands down the best , most professional, useable starmap app. I love it and use it constantly!
Great app, but its started crashing a lot. Hopefully there will be some bug fixes soon.
Ive had this app a few years now but still no manual
Been using this app for years and have never once found it lacking, or felt a need to try other astronomy apps. Its great.
